Basic Encampment

Cadet Commander of Encampment: C/1Lt James J. Hurton

What is an Encampment?

An encampment can be the most significant, worthwhile training experience in a CAP cadet's career.  Training is what the encampment is all about.  To achieve the overall goals, a positive attitude is essential.  Each year, the RI Wing of the Civil Air Patrol will conduct an encampment and provide members with the opportunity to:

1.    Apply knowledge gained in the cadet and senior programs to practical situations.
2.    Develop a greater understanding of CAP and Air Force missions and capabilities.
3.    Develop their leadership potential.
4.    Enhance interpersonal relationship skills.
5.    Develop time-management skills.
6.    Instill group cooperation and teamwork.
7.    Inspire a sense of discipline.
8.    Challenge the individual to exceed.
9.    Enhance the local unit's cadet program.
10.  Aid in retention and motivation.
11.  Present an introduction to the military.

There will also be field activities at Camp Fogarty, and C-130 orientation rides by the 143rd Airlift Wing, based at Quonset Air National Guard Base.

A cadet leadership class, known as the Rhode Island Cadet Leadership Academy (RICLA), will be held this year for second-year cadets. Cadets must have previously completed a basic encampment to take part in RICLA.
